All Candidates - 1 minute speech to address your vision for
the Region on providing quality services in an efficient and effective manner
for all families.
· We live in a great community –
we need to value it, and ensure it is still great in hundred years. The long
term view for our kids and their grandchildren.
· Representation is a right –
bring on divisions. Good representation means transparent governance and consultation.
· Governance is about providing appropriate
services at the right places at the right time. Those services need to be
transparent. Value for money and for the good of all.
· Town
Planning is key.
100 year rule. People, Lifestyle, environment and heritage should be protected.
· The
economy is about balance. We
should foster and encourage investment leading to employment, but not at the
expense of sustainability, our heritage, lifestyle or people. That is the trick
of good governance.
All Candidates – 1 minute speech to address sustainable communities
utilizing renewable energy initiatives; job security; and job creation through
initiatives including traineeships and apprenticeships
· The
youth are our future. As
a council we need to encourage business and trades to establish opportunities
for the youth. It is about taking a long term view
· Job
security is about the long term view. Business
needs to feel secure to invest and develop people. It saddens me, that we often
see people as resources to be used and discarded when a liability. Human nature
is about self interest. We need to moderate self-interest by creating partnerships
too beneficial to break.
· Innovation
is the key. We need
to engage new ideas, incentives for rooftop solar farms, community gardens,
water catchments, wilds in urban areas, bird sanctuaries on rooftops,...the
list goes on. Innovation and imagination, linked to capacity for investors to
capitalize is the only barriers. Harnessing our Eco-protectors and interest
groups as guides, should lead to a more livable and sustainable urban
environment. I saw examples of this in the New York City
rooftops. It was a partnership of environmental interest groups, business,
community and local government.
Town Planning needs to reward
re-fits that improves sustainability and heritage.
